STARGOLD WELDING GAS MIXTURES

StarGold argon (Ar) and carbon dioxide (CO2) blends are an industry standard for product quality and consistency. This versatile family of gas mixtures is ideal for welding carbon, low-alloy and some stainless steels. By increasing the CO2 content, you can increase weld penetration and bead wetting characteristics however, increased spatter may also occur. Ar and CO2 blends can be used to join a wide range of material thicknesses using a variety of metal transfer modes. Our StarGold LowHY blend is ideal for welding high strength carbon steel with flux cored and metal cored wire or where concerns about the possibility of hydrogen cracking may exist.

StarGold Aluminum is ideal for improved performance when MIG and TIG welding on a large variety of aluminum alloys. When compared with pure argon, this blends offers increased arc stability and travel speed.

StarGold argon (Ar) and oxygen (O2) blends are commonly used for conventional and pulsed spray transfer on clean (little to no scale or residual oil) plain carbon and stainless steel. These blends offer 1, 2 or 5% oxygen and provide good arc stability and low levels of spatter and fume. Higher levels of oxygen will also increase puddle fluidity that may make out-of-position welding more difficult.

At Linde, we want you to get the most out of your industrial gas. Take a look at the blends below and contact us to find the one that’s right for your application.

MIXTURE USES DATA SHEET SDS
StarGold Aluminum This blend can help create a reduction in the cleaning or frost zone and an increase in weld bead smoothness and wetting characteristics when using both GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) and GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) processes. In addition to conventional GMAW spray transfer, this blend can also be used in the pulsed mode of metal transfer. Tech SheetInfo Sheet StarGold Aluminum SDS E-6501
StarGold LowHY Linde’s StarGold LowHY blends are carefully designed mixtures of argon and carbon dioxide, with a precisely controlled addition of high purity carbon tetrafluoride (CF4), and are used to reduce diffusible hydrogen levels in weld metal. Lowering hydrogen in a weld will reduce the chance of hydrogen-induced weld metal cracking which can be an issue when joining medium and high strength materials. StarGold C-5 This blend is used for pulsed spray transfer and short-circuiting transfer on a variety of material thicknesses. A 5% mixture may be used for GMAW-P of low alloy steels for out-of-position welding. The arc forces that develop give StarGold C-5 more tolerance to mill scale and a more controllable puddle than argon-oxygen blends. CO2 in Argon gas mixture SDS E-4715
StarGold C-10 This blend performs similarly to the StarGold C-5 blend, but with increased heat input, it provides a wider, more fluid weld puddle in short-circuit and spray transfer. CO2 in Argon gas mixture SDS E-4715
StarGold C-15 This blend is used for a variety of applications on carbon and low-alloy steels. In the short-circuit mode of transfer, maximum productivity on thin gauge metals can be achieved with this blend. As the carbon dioxide percentages are lowered from maximum spray arc levels, improvements in deposition efficiency occur due to decreasing spatter loss. CO2 in Argon gas mixture SDS E-4715
StarGold C-20 This blend can be used for short-circuiting or spray transfer welding of carbon steel. CO2 in Argon gas mixture SDS E-4715
StarGold C-25 Commonly used for GMAW with short-circuiting transfer on low carbon steel, this blend is formulated to provide optimum droplet frequency on short-circuiting transfer using .035 and .045 diameter wire. It operates well in high current applications on heavy base metal, and promotes good arc stability, weld pool control and weld bead appearance. This blend will not support the spray type mode of metal transfer. CO2 in Argon gas mixture SDS E-4715
StarGold C-40 This mixture is recommended for some flux-cored wires where improved arc stability and reduced spatter levels improve welding penetration. CO2 in Argon gas mixture SDS E-4715
StarGold C-50 This blend is often used for short arc welding of pipe, particularly when other contaminants are present. CO2 in Argon gas mixture SDS E-4715
StarGold O-1 This blend is primarily used for spray transfer on stainless steels. 1% oxygen is usually sufficient to stabilize the arc and improve the droplet rate and bead appearance. Mixture of Oxygen and Argon SDS E-4718
StarGold O-2 This blend is used for spray arc welding of carbon steels, low-alloy steels and stainless steels. It provides greater wetting action than the 1% oxygen mixture and bead appearance will be darker and more oxidized with stainless steels. Mixture of Oxygen and Argon SDS E-4718
StarGold O-5 This blend provides a more fluid but controllable weld pool and with additional oxygen, permits higher travel speeds. It is the most commonly used argon-oxygen mixture for general carbon steel welding. Mixture of Oxygen and Argon SDS E-4718
