  • [ Dry Ice for Outdoor Trips Linde Canada Dry Ice for Outdoor Events Embrace the Canadian Summer After enduring long months of cold weather, we Canadians eagerly anticipate the arrival of summer. With warm, sunny days finally here, many of us enthusiastically love venturing in outdoor adventures like camping, hiking, fishing, and picnics and enjoying Canada’s natural wonders. You've done a long hike or a scenic boat ride, time to relax, and there's nothing quite like enjoying a cold drink in the great outdoors. However, keeping food and beverages cold, especially on extended trips, can be a real challenge. But, Linde Canada can help. Simply bring some our quality dry ice on you next trip and you will never have warm drinks again. How can dry ice make my outdoor events better? Dry ice is much colder than regular ice, with a temperature of -78 °C (-109.3°F), making it ideal for keeping items frozen or cold for longer periods. Unlike regular ice, it doesn’t melt into water, so your cooler stays dry and your food stays fresher. Dry ice is ideal for transporting frozen items while keeping them in a frozen state. It is perfect for meat, poultry, fish, and dairy products such as ice cream. Regular ice cannot do that. With dry ice, your food will stay frozen on the way to your cottage or boat. Whether you're heading out for a weekend camping trip, a fishing expedition, or a family picnic, dry ice ensures your perishables remain cold or frozen. Combining dry ice with regular ice makes the ice last longer. The dry ice will prevent the regular ice from melting. That will allow the regular ice to keep the items cold for a longer period of time. How to Use Dry Ice Effectively Wrap dry ice in newspaper or place it in a paper bag for insulation. Place the dry ice at the bottom of the cooler. A slab of dry ice is ideal for this. To keep items chilled (not frozen), add a layer of regular ice plastic bag. Don't allow water come into contact with the dry ice to make it last longer. Place your food and drinks on top. Fill any empty space with newspaper to slow down sublimation. To keep items frozen, add a layer of insulation, such as carboard, then place another later of dry ice on top. Open the drain plug of the cooler to allow the gases to vent out. Keep the cooler in a shaded, well-ventilated area and open it only when necessary. How much dry ice do you need? The amount of dry ice required depends on several factors. Simply referring to a table of figures will not provide an accurate estimate. The type of insulation and the size of your cooler influence how long the dry ice will last before sublimating fully. The better the cooler’s insulation, the longer the dry ice will last. The quantity of food or beverages in the cooler also impacts the longevity of the dry ice. The more items in the cooler, the faster the dry ice will sublimate. How the cooler is packed plays a role in the dry ice’s cooling efficiency. To maximize its effectiveness or the dry ice, pack your cooler with as few air gaps as possible. Naturally, the outside air temperature also affects how long your dry ice will last. The hotter the day, the quicker the dry ice will sublimate. Also, the dry ice will last longer if kept in a shady spot, compared to a sunny place. As a result, we recommend that you contact our dry ice experts. Our Linde Canada experts are happy to help you determine the right amount of dry ice for your trip. Safety First Dry ice is safe to use when handled properly. Always wear gloves or use tongs when handling it to avoid skin burns. Never store dry ice in an airtight container, as the buildup of carbon dioxide gas can cause it to burst. Use dry ice in well-ventilated areas to prevent the accumulation of CO₂ gas. Keep it out of reach of children and never ingest dry ice or place it in your mouth. Ready to Chill Your Summer? Visit or call your nearest Linde Canada location to get your supply of dry ice. • [ Acetylene Acetylene Production of acetylene gas consists of the reaction between calcium carbide and water Acetylene is a synthetic gas produced from the reaction between calcium carbide and water, and this at various sites near our customers. The process helps to preserve the environment, as acetylene gas is a by-product of the petrochemical industry. Safety information Working with Acetylene bottles What is acetylene? Acetylene, also known as ethyn, is a colorless, highly flammable gas. Because it is a colorless gas, it cannot be seen by humans, but because of its distinctive, garlicky, sweet smell, Actylene can still be perceived by humans. It is intoxicating, but not poisonous. Acetylene forms explosive compounds (acetylides) with silver and copper, among others; therefore, only metal alloys with up to 63% copper are allowed for equipment How is acetylene used? Acetylene is mainly used for oxyfuel welding and cutting. It is in fact the only gas with which gas welding can be done. In gas welding, two metal parts are united under the action of heat to one whole. The heat is obtained through the combustion of acetylene with oxygen. This creates a weld pool which, with or without the aid of an additive, forms a connection between the two metal parts. In oxyfuel cutting, the workpiece to be cut is brought to ignition temperature by means of a preheat flame, after which the centrally added cutting oxygen starts and maintains the oxidation process. The discharge velocity of the cutting oxygen jet blows the resulting slag out of the cutting joint. Oxy-fuel cutting is only possible for materials where the slag generated has a lower melting temperature than the material itself. Why are cylinders for acetylene different from those for other gases? The acetylene cylinder is an exception to other gas cylinders because it is completely filled with a porous mass, into which acetone has been sucked. This porous mass ensures a permanent distribution of the acetone throughout the contents. The reason for this is that at pressures above about 2 bar, without the presence of air or oxygen, acetylene can disintegrate into its elements, carbon and hydrogen, under explosive conditions at a sufficiently strong ignition source; this is called dissociation. When acetylene is dissolved in acetone and finely distributed throughout the porous mass, a safe filling pressure of 15 bar at 15°C can be maintained. Depending on the temperature, the gas pressure can vary by about 0.3 bar/°C. ]

Traditional cleaning methods, manual scrubbing, water-based cleaning, abrasive blasting, or chemical treatments often impose limitations, including time consumption, excessive waste, and risks of surface damage or contamination. Linde Canada solves your cleaning problems with dry ice blasting. A sophisticated cleaning solution that is revolutionizing cleaning processes across industries. Non-abrasive, eco-friendly, and efficient. Dry ice blasting transforms how organizations clean, maintain, and extend the lifespan of their equipment and facilities. With Linde Canada’s premium dry ice solutions and equipment rental services, businesses can harness this innovative technology to improve efficiency, meet hygiene standards, and even address delicate or disaster-remediation needs, all without downtime, secondary waste, or harsh chemicals. What Is Dry Ice Blasting? Dry ice blasting is an advanced media-blasting process that uses small pellets or shaved bits of solid carbon dioxide (CO2), propelled by compressed air at extreme speed, to clean surfaces. Dry ice sublimates (turns directly from solid to gas) upon impact, lifting contaminants and debris without leaving any residue behind. Known for its non-conductive, non-toxic, and non-abrasive properties, dry ice blasting is considered safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly. The Science Behind Dry Ice Blasting As dry ice pellets hit a contaminated surface at high velocity, several forces combine to dislodge dirt, grease, residues, and buildup: Thermal Shock: The extreme cold (-78.5 °C/-109°F) of the dry ice causes contaminants to shrink, fracture, and lose adhesion due to brittleness. Explosive Sublimation: Upon impact, dry ice instantly sublimates from solid to gas, creating microscopic shockwaves that lift and separate layers of debris. Non-Abrasive Cleaning: Unlike sand or soda blasting, dry ice pellets transfer minimal kinetic energy to the surface, preventing damage to sensitive equipment or delicate substrates. This combination results in a powerful yet gentle cleaning process that efficiently tackles stubborn contaminants across a wide range of surfaces and materials, including stainless steel, plastic, rubber, and concrete. Why Dry Ice Blasting Stands Out The advantages of dry ice blasting over traditional cleaning methods are considerable: No Secondary Waste or Residue: Unlike sandblasting or chemical treatments, dry ice sublimates instantly, leaving behind only dislodged debris that can be easily swept or vacuumed away. Environmentally Friendly: Dry ice is made from reclaimed CO2 sourced from existing industrial processes, minimizing its ecological footprint. Non-Toxic and Safe: Approved by Health Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, EPA, FDA, and USDA for use in food and pharmaceutical applications, dry ice eliminates chemical residues and reduces employee exposure to hazardous cleaning agents. Gentle and Non-Abrasive: Dry ice blasting preserves surfaces by avoiding abrasion or wear, making it ideal for sensitive equipment or delicate projects like historic preservation. Minimal Downtime: Most equipment can be cleaned in place without disassembly, keeping operations running smoothly while reducing labour costs and downtime. Versatile Across Industries: From food processing equipment to aerospace components, dry ice blasting adapts to highly diverse cleaning requirements. Contact your local Linde representative to check what services are available in your area. Inerting and Blanketing Inerting for Safe Storage of Chemicals Atmospheric oxygen and moisture can compromise the safe storage of valuable chemicals, particularly in the case of highly volatile substances or products prone to oxidation. Inerting or blanketing can help overcome this problem by displacing air and moisture. Inerting involves injecting pure, dry nitrogen (N2) into a chemical vessel’s headspace to prevent oxidation or moisture contamination. The N2 gas forms a protective, safe layer of gas over the contents of the tank or reactor. Gases such as N2 and carbon dioxide (CO2) can also be used to create a protective blanket in storage tanks and vessels containing flammable liquids or solids to prevent fire or explosion. Blanketing maintains a safe and dependable inert layer of gas on top of the substance or in the empty spaces in a vessel. CO2 and N2 can also be used to maintain a dry inert atmosphere in industrially cleaned piping and vessels to avoid corrosion. As a leading supplier of the inert gases N2 and CO2, we also have the know-how to help you select and size the equipment you need for safe, effective inerting and blanketing. Purging Purging to Replace Vessel Volume with Inert Gas Purging is an inerting method commonly used in safety-critical process vessels such as reactors to eliminate oxygen and moisture when operations are started up or shut down. The three primary methods are displacement, dilution and vacuum purging. With displacement purging, an inert gas is injected into an open vessel to displace atmospheric air. Dilution purging involves injecting an inert gas to reduce the concentration of oxygen and moisture. In the case of vacuum purging, air is extracted with a vacuum pump and an inert gas is then fed into the evacuated vessel. Purging is also used to remove air from piping systems. In addition, purging can be used to dispel flammable or poisonous gases. Purging is typically an initial step used to prepare a vessel before maintaining an inert atmosphere in the headspace. Our experts can advise on the purging setup best suited to your operational challenges. Pressure Transfer Pressure Transfer of Liquids with Inert Gases Conventional methods used to transfer reactants from one vessel to another present a number of challenges. They often require special pump designs, compatible with the wide range of fluids which need to be transferred. In addition, even small failures of seals, especially on the suction side of the pump, can result in leakage of air or other ambient vapors into the fluid stream. In the case of high-quality synthesis reactions, such impurities can lead to product rejections. In addition, rotating equipment like pumps requires ongoing maintenance and can be prone to failure, which can be very disruptive to chemical production operations. Pressure transfer using pure dry inert gases like nitrogen offer a simpler and safer alternative to pumping. Pressure transfer does not require any rotating equipment and is therefore more reliable. The rate of liquid transfer can be regulated by controlling the gas flow rate and pressure. We have years of expertise in the proper specification of pressure transfer systems and components. • [ Be Shop Ready: Inventory Optimization for Welders Linde Canada September 2026 Be Shop Ready: Inventory Optimization for Welders, Fabricators & Manufacturing Shops Be Shop Ready: Why Inventory Optimization is Critical for Welding Shops September marks a fresh start for many in the welding industry. Students are returning to welding programs. New apprentices are entering the workforce. Fabrication shops are preparing for a busy fall season and gearing up for year-end production targets. Whether you're running a fabrication facility, managing inventory for a maintenance team, or preparing for increased workloads in Q4, one question becomes increasingly important: Is your shop ready? Being shop ready goes beyond having welders on the floor and machines powered up. It means having the right products, consumables , gases, safety equipment , and replacement parts available when they're needed. Because when critical inventory isn't available, productivity suffers. What Does "Shop Ready" Really Mean? Many welding operations focus heavily on equipment purchases but overlook the impact inventory management has on productivity. A shop-ready operation ensures employees have immediate access to: Welding wire and electrodes Shielding gases Contact tips and nozzles MIG gun consumables Plasma cutting consumables Safety PPE Fume extraction solutions Replacement parts and accessories These are the products that keep production moving every day. Many of them are featured throughout Linde's September "Be Shop Ready" flyer because they represent the items welders rely on most frequently. Ask the Experts: Common Inventory Optimization Questions "What inventory causes the most downtime when we run out?" Surprisingly, it's rarely the large-ticket items. More often, downtime is caused by low-cost consumables that are overlooked until they're needed. Examples include: Contact tips Gas nozzles Diffusers Cable liners Plasma consumables Welding wire Electrodes Replacement helmet lenses A $5 consumable can shut down a welding operation just as effectively as a major equipment failure. That's why successful shops identify critical-use items and establish minimum stocking quantities. "How do I know what products I should stock?" Start by looking at what your team uses most often. For many fabrication and welding shops, high-priority inventory categories include: Welding Consumables Products such as: PROSTAR™ and Lincoln Electric welding wire Flux-cored wire Metal-cored wire Stick electrodes MIG gun consumables These are everyday productivity products that directly impact throughput and weld quality. Gas Supply A welder without shielding gas isn't welding. Maintaining reliable supply of industrial gases and shielding gases is essential to maintaining production schedules. For operations using metal-cored wire , pairing inventory planning with shielding gas programs such as MIG MIX GOLD™ can help maximize productivity while reducing rework and cleanup. Safety Equipment Being shop ready also means being safety ready. Helmets, replacement lenses, FR jackets, protective clothing, goggles, and PPE should never be treated as afterthoughts. "We're carrying lots of inventory. Isn't that enough?" Not necessarily. The goal of inventory optimization is not to carry more inventory. The goal is to carry the right inventory. Common signs of inventory inefficiency include: Frequently running out of high-use products Excess quantities of slow-moving items Emergency purchases Multiple versions of essentially the same product Overstocked shelves but recurring stockouts The best-performing shops regularly review consumption patterns and adjust inventory levels accordingly. "How can I reduce emergency orders?" Emergency orders are often symptoms of poor inventory visibility. A practical strategy includes: 1. Identify Critical Production Items Determine which products would stop production if unavailable. For many shops, these include: Welding wire Electrodes Shielding gases Contact tips Nozzles Plasma consumables 2. Analyze Usage Trends Review purchasing history to identify: Fast-moving products Seasonal spikes Frequently reordered items Obsolete inventory 3. Create Reorder Points Rather than waiting until inventory is depleted, establish minimum stock levels that trigger replenishment. 4. Standardize Where Possible Reducing unnecessary variation often: Simplifies purchasing Lowers inventory requirements Improves consistency Reduces carrying costs "How does gas selection impact inventory optimization?" Inventory optimization isn't limited to physical products. It also includes process efficiency. For example, shops running carbon steel GMAW and FCAW applications may improve productivity by combining ADVANTAGE™ E70C-6M Metal-Cored Wire with MIG MIX GOLD™ shielding gas. Recommended application pairing, benefits can include: Stable arc performance Lower spatter Improved bead appearance Faster travel speeds Reduced rework Increased productivity in fabrication environments The result is less wasted material, more consistent throughput, and improved operational efficiency. "How does gas selection impact inventory optimization?" Many shops focus solely on welding wire and gases while overlooking other productivity-critical categories. Consider evaluating inventory levels for: Welding Equipment Machines from brands such as ESAB , Lincoln Electric , Miller , and Hypertherm help keep operations productive when projects ramp up in the fall season. Fume Extraction Clean air is becoming an increasingly important component of a productive shop environment. Solutions such as PROSTAR™ fume extraction equipment help create safer and more efficient welding environments while supporting long-term operational goals. Private Label Products Many shops are looking for high-value alternatives that help simplify procurement and reduce costs. PROSTAR™ products provide a broad portfolio of welding consumables , PPE , accessories, fume extraction solutions, and replacement parts that support day-to-day shop operations. The Hidden Cost of Not Being Shop Ready When inventory isn't optimized, the costs go beyond product shortages. Businesses may experience: Production delays Overtime expenses Missed delivery commitments Reduced labour productivity Rush freight costs Increased administrative effort Lower customer satisfaction Inventory optimization is not simply a purchasing exercise. It's a productivity strategy. Frequently Asked Questions How often should welding inventory be reviewed? Critical consumables should typically be reviewed monthly, while high-volume production environments may require weekly monitoring. What inventory category should be optimized first? Start with products that directly affect production, such as welding wire , shielding gases , electrodes , contact tips , nozzles , and safety PPE . Is inventory optimization only for large manufacturers? No. Shops of all sizes can benefit from improved visibility, standardized products, and better replenishment practices. How can Linde help with inventory planning? Linde can help customers assess product usage, standardize consumables, optimize gas supply programs, and simplify procurement through integrated welding, safety, and gas solutions. What does "shop ready" mean? Being shop ready means having the people, products, equipment , consumables , gases, and safety solutions necessary to maintain productivity and respond to customer demand without interruption. Get Shop Ready for Fall As production ramps up and shops prepare for a busy season, now is the time to evaluate whether your inventory strategy is supporting growth or creating risk. • [ Oxygen Enrichment for Chemical Processes Linde Canada inc Oxygen Enrichment for Chemicals Boost the Efficiency of Your Chemicals Plant Explore how you can improve the performance of various chemical processes with O2e technologies complete with flow control skid, mixing technology and safety review from Linde. Enriching Process Air in Chemical Reactions Oxidation reactions are not just used in Claus plants and fluid catalytic crackers (FCCs) to intensify the process. They are at the heart of countless other chemical processes producing both chemical building blocks and final products. In most oxidation processes, molecular oxygen is the oxidizing agent of choice. The oxygen is usually supplied in the highly diluted form of process air. Approximately 79 percent of air (by volume) is inert and so its oxidation potential is limited. The extra inert “ballast” also has to be routed through the different process steps, which usually requires a significant amount of energy and impacts heat recovery. Our experience shows that oxygen enrichment of air at levels of up to 28 vol% can be safely implemented with minimal equipment changes and operational impact. Typical Use Cases and Safe Deployment O2e has the potential to intensify oxidation processes used in the manufacture of mass products as well as fine and specialty chemicals. It is often also ideal for oxidation processes typically used in the production of base chemicals such as terephthalic acid, ethylene dichloride, cyclohexanone and acrylonitrile. Depending on individual requirements, the industrial oxygen can replace part of the process air feed or it can be added to the existing supply. Our experts are on hand to conduct a thorough process safety review before you convert to O2e and to help you put the appropriate measures in place to safely manage the increased process temperatures caused by the addition of pure oxygen. For ease of deployment, we will also supply the oxygen flow control skid and mixing technology- for the safe, reliable addition of oxygen to a variety of systems. Benefits of O2e at a Glance: Reduced need to invest in new plant equipment to overcome bottlenecks Reduced operating costs, in particular energy costs for compression and waste gas treatment Increased productivity due to higher yields and throughput Better balance for trade with CO2 certificates Want more information? • [ Spent Acid Regeneration Linde Canada Inc Oxygen-Enhanced Combustion for SAR Plants Increasing Spent Acid Regeneration (SAR) Throughput in Chemical Plants The careful injection of oxygen into the combustion process can increase the productivity of SAR plants without increasing NOx emissions. Comprehensive Portfolio of Oxygen Technologies for SAR Plants SAR plants enable chemical producers to recover their spent acid and regenerate it to create high-purity sulfuric acid, which can be re-used. SAR regeneration can thus help to reduce emissions from chemical operations. We have developed a number of oxygen-based technologies that can help SAR plants increase the amount of spent sulfuric acid they can process. Increases of more than 30% have been achieved, depending on factors such as the design of downstream equipment, spent acid volumes, and fuel composition. Improvements in furnace performance, reduction of fuel consumption on a unit basis, and a decrease in nitrogen oxide (NOx) formation can also be achieved. The technologies we deliver to achieve these goals include oxygen for combustion air enrichment, oxygen burners, oxygen lances, and spent acid atomization solutions. For customers with acid streams that are difficult to break up, low-cost lancing and aeration technology installed in the acid furnace can help boost the SAR production capacity. Lancing works by using oxygen pressure to break up the acid stream. Want more information? Call us at 1-800-225-8247 or send us a message! Contact us ]

Quality & consistency: Robot steady travel speeds, torch angles, and gas coverage reduce spatter and rework. Faster payback: Start with single process tasks (short welds, bracket runs, repetitive cut patterns) and scale. Safety: Remove operators from the fume/dust cloud in grinding/cutting and improve ergonomics around heavy parts. Quick Answers to Common Automation Questions 1: Where do I start? Begin with a pre engineered robotic welding cell (e.g., Miller PerformArc™) for short, repetitive welds or tack to weld routines; pair it with PROSTAR ER70S 6 wire appropriately sized for your joint design. Keep manual stations for prototypes/high mix parts. 2: Is plasma automation overkill for a small shop? Not if you’re outsourcing plate parts or spending hours on manual cutting. A Hypertherm Powermax SYNC® system tightens cut quality and reduces changeover via color coded cartridges (drag/mech) and is easy to integrate with a table now—or run handheld until you add a table later. 3: Will my workforce accept “robots”? Position automation as workforce support: cells take the hot, repetitive runs; people handle fit up, inspection, short runs, and changeovers. Upskill operators as cell tenders/programmers. 4: What if I’m not ready for a robot? Adopt incremental automation: upgrade to PROSTAR MIG guns for better ergonomics and consumable life, standardize on contact tips/nozzles, and switch to process appropriate wire to cut rework. You’ll see productivity now and be better staged for robots later. 5: How do I justify ROI? Quantify: cycle time saved per part × parts/month, rework reduction, and labour reallocation. Use a short audit (see StarSolver) to benchmark current state and build a stepwise roadmap. How to Phase Your Automation Phase 1: Stabilize the Manual Cell (0–30 days) Standardize PROSTAR wire and contact tips/nozzles, document parameters, and fix cable management. Add templates/fixtures for your 2–3 highest volume parts. Phase 2: Accelerate Cutting & Prep (30–90 days) Add Hypertherm Powermax SYNC for predictable cut edges and faster fit up; standardize cartridge SKUs by job. Start simple nesting routines (even if hand guided today), and prep for a table when volume warrants. Phase 3: Cell Level Automation (90–180 days) Deploy Miller PerformArc on the most repetitive weldments; train one operator as cell tender. Create a consumable Kanban (tips, nozzles, wire spools) to protect uptime. Phase 4: Continuous Improvement (180+ days) Close the loop with StarSolver audits quarterly; expand fixtures and part families; consider offline programming and a cutting table integration. Calls to Action Book a StarSolver™ productivity audit (30–45 min) to identify your first three wins in automation and workforce support. • [ Dry Ice for Halloween Linde Canada Transform Halloween into a Chilling Spectacle with Dry Ice from Linde Canada What Is Dry Ice ? Dry ice is the solid form of carbon dioxide. Unlike regular ice, it does not melt into water. Instead, it sublimates, turning directly from a solid into gas. This creates the thick, ghostly fog, that can be seem in many horror movies, theatrical productions, and hunted house attractions. With a temperature of -78 °C (-109 °F), it is much colder than regular ice and ideal for both chilling and thrilling. Why Use Dry Ice for Halloween? Dry ice is the ultimate Halloween enhancer. It can: Create spooky fog for haunted houses, porches, and party rooms. Add a bubbling, smoky effect to cauldrons and punch bowls. Bring jack-o'-lanterns, ghosts, and zombies to life with misty effects. Make your Halloween décor more immersive and memorable. How-To Ideas for a Spooktacular Halloween 1. Fog-Filled Jack-o'-Lantern Carve a large pumpkin with wide openings. Place a bowl of warm water and dry ice inside to the Jack-o'-Lantern and let fog pour from its eyes and mouth. Elevate the pumpkin for a cascading effect. Add a moisture proof flickering LED lights to make appear as if spirits are emerging from the gourd. 2. Creepy Cobwebs Hide dry ice in a dish behind cobwebs. Use a small fan to blow fog through the webs for an eerie effect. Shine a light on bring attention to the effect and make the room even more eerie. 3. Misty Zombies and Props Hide open containers of dry ice around motion-activated zombies, centrepieces, or spooky lawn displays. It created an eerie mist for added drama. Adding water to the dry ice container intensifies the fog effect but it will cause the dry ice to sublimate quicker. 4. Table Centrepieces Place dry ice in a dish beneath props like skulls or spiders to fill your table with fog. For the mad-scientist laboratory effect, fill the tall glass vases, flasks and jug with different coloured water. Add some dry ice to each container. Place the contained at the centre of the table in an appealing way. Scatter small vintage medial instruments, test tubes, gloves , and PPE around the base. This will add a sinister ambiance to your Halloween dinner. Can you stomach it? 5. Create fog effects No need to rent an expensive fog machine. You can create fog effects with things you may have around your home. Use 4 litres (1 gallon) of water per 900 g (2 lb) of dry ice . Use a deep bowl at least three times the height of the dry ice block. Use a small fan to extend the fog’s reach. Refresh the water regularly to maintain fog quality. How Much Dry Ice Do You Need? The amount depends on your setup, the size of the room, its temperature and how long you want the effect to last. Here is a rule of thumb: 5 kg (11 lb): Ideal for short effects or a small party. 15 kg (33 lb): Enough for continuous fog from late afternoon through the evening. Our Linde Canada dry ice experts can help you determine the right amount when you visit or call. How and When to Buy Dry Ice Purchase on the day of your event, ideally a few hours before use. Bring a chest cooler or Styrofoam polystyrene container. Do not use a portable fridge or freezer. Do not seal dry ice in airtight containers, as gas buildup can cause them to burst. Place the dry ice container in your vehicle’s trunk, not in the passenger area of your vehicle. If the trunk shares the same space as the passenger are, such as in a minivan, crossover, SUV or hatchback, open the windows a touch to allow for ventilation. Storage Tips: Use an insulated cooler with ventilation. A Styrofoam chest with a loose-fitting lid is ideal. Line the inside of your cooler with cardboard, polystyrene foam, or a blanket to protect it from damage. Never store dry ice in a sealed container or in your freezer. Dry Ice Safety Dry ice is safe when used properly. Follow these essential guidelines: Never touch dry ice with bare hands. Use insulated gloves or tongs. Do not ingest dry ice or place it directly in drinks. Keep dry ice away from children and pets. Use in well-ventilated areas. Never store in closets or enclosed spaces. Ensure fresh air circulation when transporting dry ice in a vehicle. To dispose of leftover dry ice , leave it in its container in a ventilated area. It will sublimate naturally. Welding Productivity Starts with the Right Gas Infrastructure When fabrication teams struggle with productivity, the conversation often starts—and ends—with equipment, labour availability, or consumables. But one critical factor is often overlooked: Gas delivery. From cylinder changeouts and inconsistent flow to safety risks and unplanned downtime, outdated gas supply models quietly erode efficiency and put pressure on welding teams already stretched thin. That’s why more fabricators are rethinking how gas gets delivered to the point of use. Solutions like EVOS , PODs , and Microbulk aren’t just infrastructure upgrades—they’re tools that empower teams to work smarter, safer, and with fewer disruptions. The Real Problems Fabrication Teams Face Today: Modern welding operations are under pressure from multiple angles: Skilled labour shortages Rising production targets Increased safety expectations Demand for consistent weld quality Limited floor space and cluttered work areas On top of that, traditional cylinders introduce hidden inefficiencies: Frequent changeouts interrupt workflows Inconsistent pressure impacts weld quality Manual handling increases safety risk Inventory management consumes time and space Smarter gas delivery solutions remove these barriers—freeing teams to focus on welding, not workarounds. EVOS : Built-In Safety and Confidence at Every Station How can we improve gas safety without adding complexity for operators? EVOS is designed to make safety automatic. Instead of relying on manual checks or operator intervention, EVOS integrates safety features directly into the gas delivery system at the point of use. How EVOS Empowers Teams Improved safety control at each workstation Reduced risk of leaks or misuse Consistent, reliable gas flow Less reliance on manual handling For supervisors, EVOS delivers peace of mind. • [ Carbon Dioxide A Versatile, Sustainable Gas Linde Canada April 2026 Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) : A Versatile, Sustainable Gas, Powering Modern Industries Discover the many industrial and commercial applications of carbon dioxide (CO₂) —from food and beverage to manufacturing, refrigeration, water treatment, dry ice cleaning and fumigation. Quick Answers About CO₂ Applications 1. Does using CO₂ harm the environment? No. The CO₂ used in industry is captured as a by product of manufacturing processes—such as ammonia, alcohol, and fertilizer production—and would otherwise be released directly into the atmosphere. Linde captures, purifies, and reuses it, making industrial CO₂ an environmentally efficient choice. 2. How is CO₂ supplied? CO₂ is stored and transported as a liquid in pressurized tanks or supplied in cylinders. It can also be provided as dry ice pellets or blocks produced from liquefied CO₂ . 3. What makes CO₂ so useful across industries? CO₂’s unique properties—such as being inert, dense, cold, and non flammable—make it an ideal medium for cooling, carbonation, pH control, welding, and cleaning. 4. Why is CO₂ used as a replacement for harmful substances? CO₂ can replace chemicals like halons or Freons (CFCs) in fire suppression and foam production. These alternatives harm the ozone layer, while CO₂ does not. Summary Carbon dioxide is more than a greenhouse gas—it is a critical industrial tool. When responsibly captured and purified, CO₂ supports essential applications across food processing, manufacturing, water treatment, agriculture, welding, refrigeration, and environmental cleaning technologies. Many industries rely on CO₂ for safer processes, improved product quality, and sustainable alternatives to ozone damaging substances. Below, we explore the most common CO₂ applications and how Linde supports these operations with high purity gas supply and advanced CO₂ solutions. 1. Food & Beverage Applications: Freshness, Carbonation & Cooling CO₂ plays a key role in maintaining freshness, quality, and flavour across the food and beverage industry. Applications: Carbonation for beverages gives drinks their crisp taste. Food Packaging – CO₂ prolongs shelf life, allowing for expanded food distribution Food refrigeration and freezing—liquid CO₂ and dry ice enable rapid cooling while avoiding water contamination. Dry ice logistics—Pellets and blocks keep food cold without electricity. 2. Industrial Manufacturing: A Clean, Efficient Processing Gas CO₂ is widely used in manufacturing due to its versatility as a non flammable, non toxic and relatively inert gas. Applications: Shielding gas for welding — CO₂ provides deep penetration, high heat input and effective shielding of the weld pool from atmospheric contamination. Industrial cooling—liquid CO₂ delivers precise and efficient temperature control. Foam manufacturing— CO₂ replaces ozone depleting CFCs in polystyrene and polyurethane production. 3. Water Treatment & Environmental Protection CO₂ provides an environmentally friendly alternative to harsher chemicals. Applications: Drinking water purification— CO₂ is a low corrosion agent for adjusting pH. Wastewater neutralization— CO₂ helps stabilize pH before discharge without harmful byproducts and the risk of overshooting. Swimming pool pH control— CO₂ is cost effective, eliminates on site acid storage and handling, reduces risk of chlorine gas formation, improving safety for both swimmers and staff. 4. Agriculture & Greenhouse Production CO₂ can promote healthy plant development when applied correctly. Applications: CO₂ enrichment in greenhouses—boosts plant growth, yield, and overall crop quality. 5. Dry Ice (Solid CO₂) : Cleaning, Cooling & Logistics Dry ice is an extremely versatile form of CO₂ with widespread industrial use. Applications: Dry ice blasting (CRYOCLEAN®) —a powerful cleaning method solution that removes residues without chemicals, water, or abrasion. Cold chain logistics—keeps products frozen during transport without electrical refrigeration. Precision cooling—ideal for temperature sensitive manufacturing steps. 6. Fire Suppression & Safety Applications CO₂ is a safe, effective replacement for harmful chemical fire suppressants. Why CO₂ Works Non conductive Leaves no residue Does not damage the ozone layer Used in: Fire extinguishers (replacing halons) 7. Refrigeration Systems CO₂ (R744) is a natural, environmentally friendly refrigerant R744 replaces hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) and Hydrochlofluorocarbons (HCFC) Commonly being used in supermarket cooling systems CO₂ based R744 systems also support lower fuel consumption in refrigerated trucking. 8. Production, Storage & Supply Options How CO₂ is produced Captured as a by product from ammonia, alcohol, and fertilizer production. Then: Purified Compressed Liquefied Stored in tanks or cylinders Expanded into dry ice pellets or blocks for solid CO₂ applications Supply formats Bulk liquid CO₂ Cylinders Microbulk (optional) Dry ice pellets Dry ice blocks Why Choose Linde for CO₂ Solutions High purity, food grade and industrial grade CO₂ Reliable national delivery network Expertise in CO₂ capture, purification, and storage Environmentally responsible sourcing Industry leading technologies like CRYOCLEAN® Whether you're upgrading cooling systems, improving carbonation, adjusting pH, or exploring dry ice cleaning , Linde has the CO₂ format and purity level to support your needs. • [ ProStar Welding Helmets Product Guide How to chose the right welding helmet. Safety Safety should always be the top priority. All welding helmets must be compliant according to CSA Z94.3. All PROSTAR welding helmets meet these standards and meet USA standards ANSI Z87.1. We also recommend wearing safety glasses and a welding beanie under welding helmets. Check out our full line of PPE including safety glasses & welding beanies, online at shop.lindecanada.ca or in store. Product Type The next essential feature when choosing a welding helmet is the type but more specifically the welding lens type. There are two types of lenses; passive and auto-darkening. Passive helmets have a dark tinted lens, usually with shade #10. The lens will remain in a dark state throughout the welding process; however the user must remove the helmet to inspect the working area. These products are necessary for certain welding processes but provide a more economical choice. Auto-darkening helmets are more of an all-around solution for all levels of expertise in welding. These helmets will automatically darken once the weld arc is struck and often the different shade levels can be adjusted. Typically, shades 4-13 are used for grinding and cutting and shades 9-13 are used for welding. See shade guide table for more guidance on application and shade levels:  : Welding Process Arc Current (amps) 0.5 2.5 10 20 40 80 125 175 225 275 350 450     1 5 15 30 60 100 150 200 250 300 400 500 SMAW   9 10 11 12 13 14 MIG (heavy)   10 11 12 13 14 MIG (light)   10 11 12 13 14 15 TIG, GTAW   9 10 11 12 13 14 MAG/CO2   10 11 12 13 14 15 SAW   10 11 12 13 14 15 PAC   11 12 13 PAW   8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 Optical Clarity Welding helmets come with varying dimensions of the viewing area. A larger viewing area provides more visibility to the actual weld and working area, while a smaller viewing area provides a more focused view of the weld and working area. Depending on the application the viewing area should be taken into consideration for optical clarity. Comfort & Durability Once safety and performance are established the two other important features are comfort and durability. The welding helmet should be lightweight and comfortable to use for a full day’s work, but the helmet should also be durable to withstand the different welding processes. The helmet headgear will be an important factor in making the welding helmet comfortable. Comfort features such as integrated foam padding and an adjustable headgear will allow the helmet to be used for longer periods of time, ultimately ensuring the worker is protected during welding processes. • [ Cost Efficiencies That Boost Productivity Across Your Shop Linde Canada April 2026 Cost Efficiencies That Boost Productivity Across Your Shop Discover the top cost saving strategies for fabricators and contractors in 2026—from oxy fuel optimization and electrode selection to smarter welding gas systems and automation ready workflows. Cost Efficiency Questions Trades Pros Are Asking 1: What is the fastest way to reduce welding and cutting costs in a small shop? Start by optimizing your oxy fuel cutting setup, since it has one of the biggest impacts on cost per cut. Using the correct fuel gas, paired with the right tip size, torch configuration, and gas flow settings, allows operators to cut faster, reduce preheat time, extend consumable life, and minimize rework. Choosing a higher performance fuel gas and dialing in proper pressures are often the quickest ways for small shops to boost cutting speed and lower operating costs. 2: Does upgrading electrodes actually make a difference in cost? Yes. The right electrode reduces grinding, improves deposition rate, and cuts defect related downtime. For example, E7018M options provide cleaner, more consistent welds that translate directly into labour savings. 3: What gas system offers the best long term ROI? Microbulk is the biggest cost saver for high consumption shops—fewer cylinder swaps, less labour, zero run outs, and stable gas purity all deliver fast payback. 4: How can shops lower PPE related downtime? Helmets that improve visibility and comfort extend arc on time and significantly reduce defect rates. Even small improvements in helmet performance can lead to big gains in throughput. 5: What role does cable and hose quality play in cost efficiency? High quality cables and hoses prevent voltage drops, gas leaks, and nuisance failures—three hidden causes of poor weld quality and lost production. Why Cost Efficiencies Matter More Than Ever in 2026 Fabricators, contractors, and manufacturers are operating under tighter margins, labour shortages, and demanding project timelines. The good news? Modern welding and cutting technologies are designed to increase output without increasing budget. 1. Zero Waste Oxy Fuel Cutting: Faster Cuts, Lower Cost Per Inch Why it matters Oxy fuel systems are the backbone of metal cutting—and they consume time, gas, and tips faster than almost any other process. Small inefficiencies multiply rapidly. Cost Saving Benefits EVOS® ViPR acetylene cylinders improve safety, reduce setup time, and maintain consistent flow—cutting waste. Upgraded torches like the ProStar® ST900FC improve cut initiation and reduce tip wear. Precision regulators and flow gauges ensure operators run at optimal pressure every time. Result: Cleaner cuts, optimized fuel consumption, and dramatically reduced post cut cleanup. 2. Advanced Welding Solutions: StarSolver™ for Optimized Gas Consumption & Higher Throughput Why it matters Most shops already rely on proven shielding gas blends like argon , CO₂ , or mixed gases—but achieving optimal performance still depends on fine tuning the gas to wire combination for the specific process and material. That’s where StarSolver™ adds value. By helping operators dial in the ideal parameters and gas selection for their application, StarSolver™ supports better arc stability, reduced spatter, and more consistent weld quality. The result is higher throughput, fewer defects, and improved overall efficiency. Cost Saving Benefits Predictive gas selection tailored to your weld process Improved arc stability when paired with the correct shielding gas ( Stargon® CS or VS ) Significant reduction in rework Faster setup and fewer parameter adjustments Link: StarSolver™ 3. MIG Wire & Electrode Optimization: Get More Done Per Kilo Why it matters Wire and electrode selection influences arc stability, deposition rate, spatter, and cleanup time—every factor that drives cost per weld. Cost Saving Benefits ProStar® North Line MIG wire provides cleaner arc starts and higher inches per hour E6010 / E7018 options cut rework in structural and fabrication jobs Self shielded flux core (E71T 11) eliminates the need for gas on field jobs Real impact: Higher deposition, lower grinding time, and predictable performance for every job. Shops pairing ProStar® North Line MIG wire with consistent shielding gas flow — including argon CO₂ blends — see reduced porosity, less spatter, and more stable bead profiles. 4. Microbulk Gas Delivery Systems : Eliminate Run Outs & Reduce Labour Why it matters Cylinder handling costs time, labour, and safety risk—and is one of the largest hidden expenses in welding operations. Shops using high volumes of argon , CO₂ , or mixed gases can significantly cut costs by reducing cylinder changeouts and preventing gas run outs. Cost Saving Benefits Fewer cylinder swaps (0 per week vs. dozens) No running out of gas mid shift Better purity = cleaner welds = lower rework Link: Microbulk Delivery Systems 5. Automation & Cobots : Small Shops, Big Gains Why it matters Cobots are no longer a “big manufacturer” investment. They’re shop floor ready, affordable, and easy to deploy. Cost Saving Benefits Handle repetitive jobs that drain operator energy Improve consistency on long welds Payback often measured in months Link: Cobots 6. Helmets That Drive Uptime: Comfort + Visibility = Higher Quality Welds Why it matters Operators weld longer, cleaner, and with fewer defects when they can see clearly and stay comfortable. Cost Saving Benefits Faster arc starts Less eye strain = longer operator endurance Fewer defects from poor visibility 7. Cables & Hoses : The Hidden Productivity Upgrade Why it matters Voltage drops, leaks, and intermittent failures degrade weld quality and slow jobs down. Cost Saving Benefits Stable arc performance Leak free gas delivery Fewer mid-weld interruptions Download Technical Resources StarSolver™ Sell Sheet Microbulk Delivery Systems Sell Sheet Cobots Ready to Reduce Costs? • [ Leak Detection and Pressure Testing Linde Canada Inc Chemical Plant Pipeline Leak Detection with Helium & Nitrogen Pumping Services Using Industrial Gases to Localize Leaks Before They Impact Your Bottom Line Our experts provide a comprehensive, market-proven suite of accurate, reliable technologies and services to detect damaged pipes and leaks before they impact your profitability. Leak Detection for Pipelines and Plant Piping Systems Our service uses a helium tracer in a gas, usually with nitrogen as a carrier gas, and a sensitive helium detector to quickly locate leaks. The normal fluid is removed from the line, the line is pressurized with the test gas, and then the helium detector is used to sense the presence of helium in the air above the line. Leak Location for Long-distance Pipelines Our SeeperTrace™ leak detection service quickly, accurately and cost-effectively locates leaks in buried long-distance pipelines that carry liquids, gases or multi-phase products. It involves adding a tracer to either nitrogen gas or water. A leak as small as 2.5 gallons per day can be detected without service interruption or excavation. SeeperTrace thus allows leaks to be repaired and the test completed without costly project delays. • [ Primary Syngas Production Linde Canada Inc Hot Oxygen Technology (HOT) Discover how to enhance syngas production and reforming with our HOT technology Helping the world transition to cleaner fuels with oxygen technology for gasification processes. Extending the Reach of Renewable Liquid Fuels An important pathway for the production of renewable liquid fuels is the gasification of carbon-containing solids such as biomass or municipal solid waste. Many of the gasification processes and reforming processes in use today require oxygen. The gasification process converts carbon-containing solids into a synthesis gas (syngas) consisting mainly of a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide. Syngas is then catalytically or biologically converted into liquid fuels. It is important to note that syngas produced from the gasifier may contain a fraction of hydrocarbons and tars. Oxygen applications help convert this fraction to ensure that fuel yields are maintained and that there are fewer technical or economic challenges downstream for syngas cooling and clean-up. Enhancing Syngas Production and Reforming with Hot Oxygen Technology Our hot oxygen technology (HOT) is designed to enhance syngas production from natural gas and to increase syngas yield from lower-temperature gasifiers by converting residual tars and hydrocarbons present in the raw syngas product. HOT utilizes a high-momentum jet of hot oxygen (>1,982 °C)/(>3,600°F) to rapidly and efficiently entrain feed gas so that it may be partially oxidized to a syngas. The combination of high-temperature heat and a high oxygen concentration allows the HOT-based process to provide high-quality syngas that is predominantly hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The yield of this syngas is much higher than that achieved using ambient-temperature oxygen. HOT has been shown to work well with a diverse range of feedstocks and has the added advantages of not requiring steam or a catalyst to achieve high syngas yields. HOT can form the core of a small syngas production plant where the feedstock is natural gas. Our HOT technology can also be used as a secondary syngas reformer to improve the yield and quality of syngas produced via gasification. Here at Linde, we have been designing, engineering, building and operating oxygen plants in diverse markets and geographies for over a hundred years. We offer a full portfolio spanning all plant sizes and technologies ranging from a few tons per day to thousands of tons per day. Our technologies cover both cryogenic air separation units (ASU) and non-cryogenic vacuum pressure swing adsorption (VPSA) units. The oxygen generated at the plants we have built supports the production of power, clean fuels and chemicals worldwide. Our plants also meet gasification and reforming needs based on input materials such as natural gas, coal, heavy oils, petroleum coke, carbon-rich biomass and biogas. No matter where you’re located, or what you envision, we can provide you with a reliable and competitively priced oxygen supply for your gasification and reforming needs. Want more information? • [ Safe use of gas Safe use of gas Using and handling our gases safely Industrial and specialty gases are extremely versatile substances. However, they can also bring new safety hazards to the workplace. Anyone who uses gases must have completed the relevant training courses and handle gases in line with the applicable safety procedures. Gas risks Cylinder safety Gas cylinders storage Transporting cylinders Handling cryogenic gases Safe use of dry ice Safe use of equipment Gas risks You can virtually eliminate risks if you are equipped with the right knowledge about gas properties and safe handling procedures. Compressed gases can be classified in the following categories: Flammable gases Flammable gases in the right concentration in air or oxygen burn or explode when ignited. If the mixture is too lean or too rich it will not ignite. Rich mixtures, however, are dangerous because they may form explosive mixtures at the outer edge of an area. Acetylene, ammonia, hydrogen, propane, propylene and methane are all flammable gases, also known as fuel gases. They burn when mixed with an oxidant and provided with a source of ignition. Starting from low concentrations, the risk of fire increases as the percentage of fuel gas rises. Once the concentration exceeds the higher value (UEL), the air becomes “too rich” to burn, reducing the chances of ignition. In any container or confined space, even small quantities of escaping fuel gas can form an ignitable mixture under the right conditions. Yet there is also a small risk of fuel gases reaching their lower threshold limit in open spaces or large, naturally ventilated work areas. Fuel gas that has leaked may form an ignitable mixture with the surrounding air, resulting in fire or explosion. Some of these gases are therefore odorised so that leaks can be more easily identified by smell. Toxic & corrosive gases Compressed gas or vapor that has a median lethal concentration (LC50) in air of 200 parts per million (ppm) by volume, or 2 milligrams per liter or less of mist, fume, or dust, when administered by continuous inhalation for one hour (or less if death occurs within one hour) to albino rats weighing between 200 and 300 grams each. Oxidisers Oxidisers are not flammable, but they contribute to combustion of other materials by yielding oxygen. Oxidisers in concentrated and/or pressurized state should not come into contact with even the smallest amounts of grease, oil or any organic material. Air, nitrogen dioxide and oxygen are common oxidisers. If for example oxygen is not handled correctly, the surrounding atmosphere can become enriched with oxygen. The information here details the dangers of enrichment and the simple measures required to use oxygen safely. Atmospheric gases are non-toxic. If their concentrations change, however, they can have an impact on life and combustion processes (especially in the case of oxygen). A sufficient amount of oxygen must be present in breathable atmospheres. Oxygen itself is not flammable, but it does support combustion. Fire hazards from oxygen enrichment Oxygen reacts with most elements. The initiation, speed, vigour and extent of these reactions depend on a number of factors including the concentration, temperature, pressure of reactants, ignition energy and the mode of ignition. Combustibility of materials The risk of fire increases considerably when the concentration of oxygen in an atmosphere rises, even if it is just by a few percent. Sparks that under normal conditions would be harmless can cause fires in oxygen enriched atmospheres, and materials that would not normally burn in air - including fireproof materials - may burn vigorously or even spontaneously. Hydrocarbon oil and grease Oil and grease are particularly hazardous in the presence of pure oxygen as they can ignite spontaneously and burn with explosive violence. They should never be used to lubricate oxygen or enriched-air equipment (special lubricants which are compatible with oxygen can be used under certain conditions). Smoking Many combustion accidents are triggered when cigarettes are lit in oxygen-enriched atmospheres. The risks of smoking in oxygen-enriched atmospheres or places where oxygen enrichment may occur are extremely high. Smoking must be forbidden in all such areas. Inert gases Inert gases reduce oxygen levels and limit combustion when fed into a room or confined space. They are used in extinguishing systems in areas where water would cause too much damage, for example in rooms with electronic devices. Nitrogen and argon inhibit combustion. Any changes in the concentration of these gases cannot be detected by human senses. If they are not handled correctly, accidents may occur. In order to be stored as liquids, these gases have to be cooled at extremely low temperatures (less than -180 ºC at atmospheric pressure). In this state, they can rapidly cause cold burns and make certain materials brittle, which in turn may lead to structural failure. Hazards from oxygen deficiency Oxygen is essential to life. Although a healthy person may survive short exposure to oxygen content as low as around 16%, an adequate oxygen supply must be present in any atmosphere being breathed by humans. A drop in oxygen levels is not accompanied by any immediate signs, making deficiency impossible to detect by human senses. Oxygen volume % Action and symptoms 18 Lowest limit for working without a fresh-air mask. less than 18 Significant drop in physical and mental performance without noticing anything abnormal. less than 10 Risk of unconsciousness without warning after a few minutes. less than 8 Unconsciousness within a few minutes. Recovery possible if carried outdoors immediately. less than 6 Unconsciousness almost immediately. Causes and prevention of oxygen deficiency Oxygen deficiency can be prevented by observing the following measures: Leaks of gases other than oxygen automatically lead to oxygen deficiency. New equipment which uses inert or any other gas should be thoroughly checked for leaks using a timed gas pressure drop test plus a leak test with an approved leak detection fluid that is compatible with the equipment in question. All equipment, including pipes and hose connections, should be properly fitted. Hoses and other equipment should be kept leak-tight and protected against damage. All maintenance and repair work should be carried out by experienced and fully qualified personnel. When the work period is over, the cylinder valve or piped supply stop valve must be turned off in order to avoid leakage between two working periods. The valves on welding equipment should not be relied upon as shut-off valves for the gas supply. Gas cylinders in use should not be handled roughly, knocked or pulled over. A small amount of liquefied gas can vaporise into a large amount of gas. Liquid spills can therefore rapidly cause oxygen deficiency in confined spaces. Tanks and equipment for storing and handling liquid gases should be inspected carefully and maintained in accordance with relevant regulations and recommendations. Vented gases often have low oxygen content. Work should not be carried out in these atmospheres. Oxygen deficiency arises when plant items such as vessels are purged with nitrogen or other inert gases in preparation for repairs. Processes that involve the vaporisation of liquid nitrogen, such as food cooling, ground freezing, cryogenic surgery and blood plasma preservation, automatically lead to oxygen-deficient atmospheres. People should not enter these areas without adequate breathing equipment, even if the atmosphere is only slightly deficient in oxygen. Those kind of areas should be equipped with appropriate detectors and alarm systems. All gas welding and heating processes extract oxygen from air. These processes can lead to oxygen deficiency if the workspace is too small and poorly ventilated. Removing argon, carbon dioxide or any other cold gas from large vessels and deep pits can be difficult as these gases are denser than air. Air fed in to the bottom of these spaces tends to float up through the dense gas without displacing it. This means that purging can take much longer than expected. Detecting oxygen enrichment or deficiency Areas where the oxygen content can change to a dangerous extent must be continuously monitored using instruments that show increases and decreases in the concentration of oxygen in the ambient atmosphere. In confined spaces, these instruments should be located as close to workers as possible. Ideally, workers should have a portable instrument attached to their work clothes. Discontinuous measuring methods should only be used if the tendency for dangerous changes in oxygen content can be detected quickly in the time between any two measurements. Oxygen content is not the only factor that defines whether a space is safe or not. Atmospheres can be affected by other gases such as fuel gases and nitrogen oxides used with cutting or heating torches. These should be monitored wherever necessary. Preventive measures Apparatus used for the manufacture, distribution and utilisation of inert gases must be installed and identified in accordance with the recommendations of the industrial gas industry, and must comply with relevant regulations. Any leaks must be dealt with by persons with adequate training and proper equipment. Workers and first aiders should know what to do in the event of an incident. Operating personnel must at all times obey site rules and regulations and wear protective equipment where necessary. All persons working in spaces at risk from oxygen deficiency or enrichment should be adequately informed of the risks involved. Special attention should be drawn to the insidious nature of the risks and how rapidly they can develop without any indication to workers. Linde offers trainings about risks involved in gas application as well as mitigating measures to take. Cylinder safety Making it safe for our customers to handle and use our gases Our cylinders are colour-coded in line with the European standard EN 1089-3, making them easy to identify from long distances. You can find a summary of the characteristics of the most common industrial cylinders below. Each gas cylinder should be accompanied by the corresponding Linde material safety data sheet (MSDS). You can identify the gas inside a cylinder based on the cylinder’s label or collar. The label also provides vital safety information. These are the different elements of a typical cylinder label: Product name Physical properties Warning symbols Gas code Transportation information Safety information Linde gas cylinders are designed and manufactured in line with international standards and specifications. These guidelines define the material from which the cylinders are made, the method of manufacturing, the test pressure, maximum permissible filling pressure and the regular testing method. Maintaining and testing cylinders If you own your cylinders, you must be aware of and comply with statutory obligations regarding maintenance and regular testing. If you rent your cylinders from Linde then Linde – as the owner of those cylinders – ensures that these regulations are met. Cylinder valves and security caps All Linde cylinders that contain gas at high pressure are fitted with a cylinder valve. This must not be removed or tampered with at any time except to tighten the gland nut when necessary. All filled cylinder filled with gas should be kept with a valve cap at all times when not in use! Some cylinders have a shrink-foil, a plastic cap or a tape over the cylinder valve indicating that they have been filled and checked. Each valve outlet is specially threaded to fit standard pressure regulators available at Linde sales points. Regardless of whether gas cylinders contain flammable or non-flammable gases, all cylinder valves are opened by turning the spindle anti-clockwise and closed by turning the spindle clockwise. Important NEVER open an acetylene cylinder valve completely. A half turn is sufficient. NEVER leave the opened spindle of any cylinder valve against the backstop. NEVER tamper with cylinders in any way. If in doubt ask your gas supplier. NEVER attempt to repair a cylinder. NEVER hide damage to cylinders. NEVER mix gases in a cylinder. NEVER transfer gas to another cylinder. NEVER scrap a cylinder you do not own. NEVER use adaptors to connect regulators or hoses that are not approved for that gas. NEVER expose cylinders to elevated temperatures (> 55°C) Pressure relief devices Certain cylinders are fitted with pressure relief devices. These can be either relief valves (which re-seal when pressure falls to normal) or bursting discs (which discharge content completely). This disc is fitted on the cylinder valve. Identifying Cylinders The cylinder label is the primary means of identifying the properties of a gas in a cylinder. The cylinder’s colour coding, however, provides a further guide to content. Gas type Colour Poisonous and/or corrosive gases Yellow Combustible gases Red Oxidising gases Light blue Inert gases Light green Acetylene Maroon Argon Dark green Food gases Green Helium Brown Carbon dioxide Grey Medical gases White Specialty gases Silver grey Nitrogen Black Nitrous oxide Blue Hydrogen Red Oxygen White Download colour coding gas cylinders (PDF) Gas cylinders storage Finding the right place to store your cylinders safely Gas cylinders are large, heavy and relatively unstable due to the small base-diameter to height ratio. For your safety, it is important to adhere to a few simple rules when storing your gas cylinders: Store cylinders appropriately. Store cylinders in a well-ventilated covered area, preferably outside on a level, well-drained surface in the shade. Store cylinders vertically and secured to prevent them from falling over. Store full and empty cylinders separately, rotating your cylinder stock so that the oldest cylinders are used first. Separate cylinders according to gas properties (flammable, inert, oxidant and so on). Cylinders with flammable content must be stored separately from other cylinders. Safety signs must be displayed in storage areas in line applicable legal requirements. Be aware of the properties of the individual gases, the specific requirements for certain products. Cryogenic, liquefied and compressed gases that are heavier than air can collect in low-lying areas such as drains, basements and ducts. Take these aspects into consideration when storing these gases. Pay attention to th electric components in the storage area. If you are storing flammable gases, electric equipment must meet certain specifications. Remember: Never store flammable cylinders with other gas cylinders. Never store other products with cylinders, particularly flammable materials such as fuel, oil, paint or corrosive liquids as this may result in a hazardous situation. Never store LPG cylinders within five meters of other gas cylinders. This distance can be reduced if the cylinders are separated by a firewall. Transporting cylinders Getting your gases to the point of use in complete safety When you collect cylinders from a Linde sales point, the Linde agent will inform you of your obligations regarding the carriage of dangerous goods. Anyone transporting gas cylinders in a vehicle should follow basic safety requirements: Drivers should be trained in the hazards and dangers of the goods they are handling, the safe handling of gas cylinders and emergency procedures and the use of fire-fighting equipment All training should be recorded and the records should be kept by both the employee and employer. Employees should regularly participate in refresher courses that cover any changes to regulations. Employers should verify which courses new employees have attended. Gas cylinders should be transported in open vehicles. If this is not possible, vehicles should be well ventilated. Toxic gases must not be carried in a closed vehicle unless it has been specifically designed for this purpose. The transport of toxic materials require some additional measures and equipment and should never been carried out by untrained personnel! All vehicles carrying gas cylinders must be equipped with a two kg fire extinguisher for fighting engine and cab fires. Cylinder valves must be closed whilst in transit and any equipment disconnected. Furthermore the cylinder cap must be attached for transport. Cylinders should be secured properly and should not project over the sides or ends of the vehicle. All Linde cylinders have cylinder labels produced in accordance with applicable legislation. These labels must never be removed or defaced. In the event of a suspected leak, park the vehicle in a safe place and contact Linde. If it is a serious incident, contact the emergency services. If your load exceeds a certain threshold, you may need to take additional safety precautions. It is every driver’s responsibility to know whether the load they are carrying is above this threshold. Cylinders must be transported on company or private grounds with the same amount of care as on public roads. They must be properly secured when being moved and, if transported in a van, precautions must be taken to avoid gas building up and affecting the driver. Handling cryogenic gases Taking the precautions necessary to ensure that cryogenic gases do not pose a safety risk A cryogenic liquid is a liquid cooled below its normal boiling point below –130°F (–90°C). Argon, helium, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen are the most common industrial gases transported, handled and stored in a liquid state at cryogenic temperatures. Due to these extremely low temperatures and the high rate at which these gases can convert from liquid to gas, a number of precautions and safe practices must be observed. Specific precautions must also be followed to prevent liquid reacting with contaminants or other hazards associated with particular products such as asphyxiation or flammability. Visit our safety documents section to find out which safety guidelines must be applied by you. As always, end users should be thoroughly familiar with the product-specific Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). All operators must have a thorough knowledge of the equipment required in conjunction with cryogenic gases. Danger of suffocation How do you prevent the risk of suffocation when working with cryogenic gases such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide or argon? That's what this video explains. If, after watching the film, you have any questions about the possibility of a safety check by a Linde specialist in your company or institution, please contact us via our online contact form . Safe use of dry ice The necessary precautions for working with dry ice Cryogenic gases are extremely cold; also dry ice (carbon dioxide in solid form), with a product temperature as low as -78.9 ºC. The released carbon dioxide gas displaces the oxygen present in an enclosed space. Room monitoring limits the risks here. When using dry ice, there are a number of general precautions to limit the risks for skin, eyes and breathing. In case of an accident with dry ice, always contact the nearest doctor immediately. Important Dry ice has a temperature of -78.9 ºC. Contact with, for instance, the skin can lead to blisters or even burns. When overfilling dry ice from a large container into a small one, dry ice can fall out. Therefore, do this slowly and carefully! When working with dry ice, wear a face shield or safety goggles with eye caps. Wear the specially insulated gloves for handling dry ice. Normal work gloves are insufficient. Keep dry ice separate from the driver during transport. Never in the cabin or in the passenger compartment of the car. If you store dry ice, ventilate well. The carbon dioxide that is released and that spreads just above the floor is suffocating. It displaces the oxygen. It is advisable to install a gas detection system. Dry ice should never be used as ice cream and should not be touched with bare hands. Keep dry ice out of reach of children. Dry ice may only be stored in suitable containers. Safe use of equipment Preventing accidents by handling equipment in a safe way If not properly maintained by professionals, Leaks can develop in any part of a gas supply system. Joints are particularly vulnerable. So it is crucial that you monitor all links in your supply system. The right gas equipment and manifolds can help you store gas correctly, regulate flow rate and pressure and prevent major accidents resulting from leaks. We offer a comprehensive range of safety-certified gas equipment such as manifolds, regulators and valves. We also offer advice to help you observe the correct safety practices. All equipment in a gas supply system must be checked for leaks after assembly/installation. Any necessary adjustments must be made before the supply is turned on. Always use leak detection liquid when testing equipment. Linde also offers professional gas detection devices. Do not use soapy water or washing up liquid. Our leak detection spray TL-4 is perfect for industrial systems. Make sure that the leak detection solution is compatible with the equipment materials. ALL joints should be tested. Apply the leak detection liquid to joints and any potential leakage points, such as the connection point between the cylinder valve and the regulator Never apply leak test liquids to a cylinder valve outlet If any frothing occurs, depressurise the system immediately and correct the leak Do not use the equipment until the leak has been rectified Ensure the area is dry by wiping it with a clean, lint-free cloth after the check Once the leak has been rectified, re-purge air from the system before use. Regularly check for faults and leaks Hoses with leaks, cuts, burns or localised surface damage should be replaced with new industry-approved fitted hoses. Regularly examine the cutting or welding nozzle. If it is becoming clogged, clean or replace it. Keep equipment clean. Oxygen regulators in particular must be kept in a clean area when not in use. If a pressure regulator is defective, replace it immediately. Leaks around the cylinder valve spindle If there is a leak around the spindle of the cylinder valve, you will hear a hissing sound and, in the case of fuel gases, smell the escaping gas. Do not use the cylinder and do not attempt to repair the leak. Move the cylinder to an area where the leak can disperse safely, label it and advise us. If your manometer is broken, you can purchase a new one as a spare part from Linde. Never remove, change or tamper with the pressure gauges on a pressure regulator. If a gauge leaks, take the whole pressure regulator to Linde and ask for advice. Connecting your gas cylinders safely to a manifold Whether you wish to use individual gas cylinders or connect your cylinders to a manifold, we have the supply solution to suit you. We provide cylinder-bundles for customers who require larger quantities of gas and have adequate handling facilities to offload them from the delivery vehicle and transport them to and from the point of use. Customers should never remove individual cylinders from cylinder-bundles - they are designed and supplied as units. The unauthorised removal of individual cylinders may result in a dangerous situation. Manifolds should be planned and installed by experts working in compliance with relevant regulations. Advice on gas equipment To ensure the personal safety of anyone handling our gases, we advise our customers on protective gear and equipment such as hoses and flashback arrestors. Hoses Hoses for welding cylinders should be of the highest quality and meet European standards. Linde’s offers a range of top quality hoses. Inferior hoses harden and may crack, leak or ignite internally if oxygen gets into the system. Never use water hoses for gas supply systems. Hoses should be the correct length and not longer than necessary. However, they must be long enough to allow cylinders to be positioned safely, away from sparks and hot metal. Do not coil surplus hose around the cylinder or regulator or on the floor close to cylinders. A fire in a coiled hose is very difficult to extinguish. Surplus hose should be positioned behind the welder to keep it clear of sparks. Hoses should not be positioned underneath the cutting/welding area. Bad hose connections are a frequent cause of accidents. Fitted hoses from Linde are supplied with the ends firmly attached to nipples together with loose nuts for connections to regulator outlets and blowpipe inlets. We also supply traditional hoses with hose clamps. Never use old or used clips for hose connections. Twisted wire can cause serious injury if the hose works loose and flails about. Check connections regularly and remember to purge hoses before lighting a cutting or welding torch. Hose check valve and flashback arrestors Flashbacks can and do occur if oxyfuel gas equipment is not operated at the correct pressures, if the correct procedures are not observed or if nozzles become blocked. Faulty or leaking equipment can also cause flashbacks. Back feeding is another main cause of flashbacks and occurs when higher pressure gas feeds back up a lower pressure stream. A hose check valve prevents oxygen and fuel gas mixing in the hose and subsequently causing fire, injury and damage. A flashback arrestor is designed to quench the flashback and, in conjunction with a cut-off valve, automatically shut off the gas flow. These multifunction devices provide an additional safeguard, particularly in locations such as hospitals, garages, and workplaces with flammable or hazardous chemicals, where fire resulting from a flashback would be especially dangerous. Any equipment that uses oxygen must be specifically approved for this use. Flashback arrestors should be fitted to all fuel gas supply lines and oxygen supply lines used in conjunction with fuel gases. Regulations regarding oxygen and flashback arrestors differ from country to country. We recommend using flashback arrestors with four safety features including a pressure sensitive shut-off valve that has to be opened manually before the gas can flow. The correct clothing and protective equipment When welding or cutting, operators must wear goggles with double lenses (carrying the CE mark). The inner lens should be tinted and the outer lens clear. The clear outer lenses should be changed regularly when spatter builds up. Eye protection (spectacles or goggles carrying the CE mark) should also be worn when handling high pressure gases in order to protect eyes against dust particles or the impact of a gas stream. Do not wear clothes made of highly flammable materials. Leather gloves or gauntlets should be used where necessary. Additional protective clothing may be required in certain work environments. ]

  • [ Extendapak Food Gases Linde Canada   Extendapak® Linde Food Gases The use of modified atmospheres to replace air in food packages is applicable to many types of food. Controlling food spoilage is complex and more than one gas may be appropriate for the same application. However, specific packaging conditions and shelf life extension requirements play a role in determining which one is most suitable for a given application. Linde's Extendapak® gases are used by food processors and packagers to extend the shelf life of their products. These gases include pure nitrogen, carbon dioxide and oxygen or a mixture of these products and function to displace unwanted atmospheric gases when used in a Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) process. MAP represents only one aspect of what a food processor can use to ensure that high quality and safe food reaches the marketplace and, ultimately, the consumer. Most importantly, MAP does not eliminate or reduce the processor’s responsibility for food manufacturing practices. In fact, the opposite is true. MAP is only appropriate for plants producing the cleanest of products. No gas combination in the package will ever reverse a food's poor microbial condition. At its best, MAP will only extend the keeping quality of a food. Linde has also developed other gas technologies for food applications. • [ Water & Wastewater treatment Gases and Application Technologies for Water and Wastewater Treatment Pure Water Knowledge - For Today's Treatment Challenges Innovative Solutions for the Water Treatment Industry Water is essential for all life forms, yet access to clean, safe water is becoming increasingly difficult in many parts of the world. All water used by humans and industry must be treated to increasingly tight regulatory standards before it can be safely reused or returned to the natural environment.  For decades, Linde has been working with Water Treatment plant operators and stakeholders worldwide to design and commission applications for gases such as oxygen, carbon dioxide and ozone in water and wastewater treatment processes. Our innovative and pioneering solutions help operators to cost-effectively meet challenges such as pH control, substitution of acids, permanent and seasonal capacity increases. Linde’s gas-dissolution equipment maximizes dissolution efficiency and minimize power costs.  Extensive Offering - Reliable supply of industrial gases - Innovative, intelligent dosing systems (O2 & CO2) - Excellent service capabilities - Support during installation and maintenance - Best practices from 500+ installations worldwide Water & Wastewater Treatment Processes Linde can assist you to achieve reduced operating costs and improved reliability through use of oxygen dissolution equipment and other Linde gas applications for wastewater operations and treatment of potable water after desalination. Oxygen Instead of Air The use of pure oxygen (O2) is more effective than air in applications that require high capacity or high levels of dissolved oxygen.  Neutralization and Remineralization with CO2 When dissolved in water, carbon dioxide (CO2) forms carbonic acid.  Neutralization with CO2 is often less expensive than with other acids, and safer:  pH changes with CO2 are nearly linear at basic pH, which facilitate precise pH control. Under atmospheric pressure, the minimum pH level achieved with CO2 is around 6.5-7.0.   Even with variable raw water characteristics, the pH can thus be easily and precisely adjusted without the danger of acidification. The application of CO2 and lime is required as the final stage after desalination before water can be distributed in the municipal network to the consumer. Pure Oxygen for Ozone Generation Modern ozone applications typically see a lower lifecycle cost when oxygen is used as the feed gas instead of air.  O2-based ozone generation offers substantial power and capital savings compared to air. Services and Customer Support We support our customers at every stage of the solution lifecycle - from the initial assessment through application technology deployment to installation of a tailored gas supply system, always aligning our solutions with concrete operational challenges. ]
  • [ IN2ERT Accelerated Purging and Decontamination Services Linde Canada IN2ERT™ Accelerated Purging and Cleaning Services IN2ERT™ purging and cleaning from Linde Services Canada Inc. delivers safe, reliable, and fast cleaning to maintain equipment containing hydrocarbon residues or volatile organics. Linde’s IN2ERT™ service gives asset owners a quick and efficient means to suppress toxins for maintenance work. Our expert staff will develop a customized chemistry based on contaminents such as – H₂S, BTEX, LEL, and others that will mix with a nitrogen stream rapidly clearing tanks, piping & heat exchangers of H₂S/VOC’s. The IN2ERT™ mist encapsulates the toxins rendering the vessel inert and the waste environmentally friendly. After traditional nitrogen purging of tanks and piping, the residues left in these units will continue to emit H₂S and volatiles requiring suspension of maintenance activities. With the IN2ERT™ process, the mist absorbs the hydrocarbons while also coating the internals/residues (encapsulation) preventing further release of emissions. This ensures that maintenance downtime meets the scheduled outage. IN2ERT Service Advantages Faster & more predictable service vs nitrogen-only purging Safer because of encapsulating nature of chemicals Tailored chemistry for different contaminants (H₂S, Acids, VOC’s, etc.) Versatile application to various types of process equipment: tanks, process vessels, pipe conduits, heat exchangers etc. Environmentally friendly due to vapour encapsulation utilizing organic chemicals Cost-effective for challenging vessels and pipework to be cleaned Customized Mixtures to Handle: Acids | Alcohols | Benzene | H₂S | LEL | Mercaptans | Organo-halides | VOC Applications Tanks with significant internals Process vessels Oil tanks with significant sludge deposits Oil pipelines Heat exchangers that need to be cleaned Volatile crude oil/oil tanks Need for rapid LEL suppression & high H₂S content Setups Nitrogen supply Non-hazardous chemical injection skid IN2ERT™ mixer with safety valves Optional scrubber Need a faster, safer way to prepare equipment for maintenance? • [ Welding Safety & Compliance Linde Canada February 2026 Welding Safety & Compliance for Small & Mid-Size Shops Welding safety is essential for small and mid-size manufacturers. From PPE like welding helmets , welding gloves , and respirators to advanced PAPR systems , compliance ensures worker health and productivity. This guide covers low-fume solutions such as low-manganese filler metals, Linde’s proprietary MIG Mix Gold Shielding gas , and safety controls like welding curtains , and at-source capture MIG guns . Explore how PROSTAR Welding Apparel , abrasives , and automation tools like PushCorp by Walter help you reduce exposure, improve weld quality, and meet CCOHS and CSA standards. Quick Answers to Common Questions 1: Why is welding fume control important? Based on CCOHS’ recommendation, on gun extraction and LEV reduce weld fume exposure significantly—highlighting the importance of control measures. CSA standard W117.2:19 (R2023) Safety in welding, cutting, and allied processes. addresses respiratory hazards like manganese and hexavalent chromium in welding fumes, reinforcing this is a key industry concern. 2: Do I need a PAPR if I have ventilation? CCOHS recommends LEV, on gun extraction, and PAPR , showing PAPRs can offer superior breathing zone protection, validating this as a technical decision trade-offs question. 3: Are low manganese filler metals worth it? ESAB and Hobart explain the metallurgical and exposure-control benefits of low-manganese filler metals in industrial welding. 4: What standards apply in Canada? CSA standard W117.2:19 (R2023) Safety in welding, cutting, and allied processes, guidance are frequently cited in relation to welding safety, showing technical relevance across regions. 5: Can at source capture MIG guns replace large ventilation systems ? Suppliers like ABICOR and Bernard detail design features for high-flow fume capture at the gun, indicating technical evaluation of source control solutions. 6: What role does automation play in safety? 3M/Lincoln whitepaper describes robotic weld grinding and safety benefits, targeting shop-floor decision-makers considering automation to reduce exposure. The SMB friendly safety stack (mapped to the welding workflow) Goal: Follow the hierarchy of controls—substitution → engineering → admin → PPE —to reduce exposure at each step of the weld cell. 1: Before the arc: choose safer inputs Low manganese filler metals: Lower Mn content helps reduce a key neurotoxic exposure driver in the fume mix. Pair with good process control; still verify with air monitoring. MIG Mix Gold (shielding gas blend): Optimize the gas for stable arc, low spatter, and consistent puddle control, helping reduce rework and post weld abrasion needs. (mixture specifics vary; implement per WPS and qualify.) Welding chemicals (e.g., Whale Spray): Use purpose built anti spatter/cleaners to minimize grinding and airborne fine particulates downstream; ensure SDS alignment and proper ventilation. 2: At the arc: remove fumes where they form At source capture MIG guns : Integrated extraction captures a high percentage of fume directly at the nozzle without compromising shielding gas when properly configured; boosts welder mobility vs. fixed arms. Independent studies show on torch extraction reduces nanoparticle exposure in the welder’s breathing zone during arc welding. 3: Around the arc: contain and protect Welding screens , custom screens & curtains: Control line of sight light/radiation, define safe zones, and help manage bystander exposure while supporting airflow design per CSA guidance. Abrasives (pre/post weld): Choose high efficiency abrasives that cut faster and cooler to minimize airborne dust load and time at risk. Pair with downdraft or on tool extraction where feasible (see automation below). 4: Respiratory & personal protection (when needed and as a layer of defense) PAPR welding helmets: Provide clean, filtered air and increased comfort during welding and grinding tasks. Different models offer varying levels of protection — choose systems tested and validated by the manufacturer and ensure they’re used under a compliant safety program.
